KNOW ABOUT MANDRAKE MANDRAGORA

In spring, the Mandrake - Mandragora officinarum - is very spiritual blooms from a rosette of leaves, and it is used in 'flight ointments,' which are notorious witch's herbs. Also native to us, but rarely and perhaps only to be found by actual herbalists. In the eastern Mediterranean, mandrake is found mainly on rocky slopes. But it can also be found in North Africa, the Middle East, and as far as the Himalayas. Throughout history, legends have sprung up around the roots owing to their appearance and their human-like form.

INSTRUCTION FOR SOWING MANDRAKE MANDRAGORA

Nurturing Mandrake (Mandragora) seeds into vibrant plants requires careful attention and adherence to specific sowing instructions. Follow these guidelines to optimize the germination process and ensure the successful growth of your Mandrake seeds:

  1. Soil Preparation: Mandrake thrives in light and porous soil with a substantial proportion of sand or gravel. Before sowing, prepare the soil by creating a well-draining mixture that promotes healthy root development.

  2. Cold Stratification: Mandrake seeds require a simulated cold period to break their dormancy and initiate germination. To achieve this, treating the seeds with a cold stratification technique is recommended. Place the seeds in a container with sand or sterile Cactus substrate and store them in a refrigerator at around 5 degrees Celsius temperature. This simulated cold period will help trigger the germination process.

  3. Mould Prevention: To safeguard the Mandrake seeds from mould growth during the cold stratification period, using sand or sterile Cactus substrate as the medium is advisable. These materials provide a well-drained environment that discourages mould formation.

  4. Sowing in Autumn: Once the cold stratification process is complete and autumn arrives, planting the Mandrake seeds directly into the prepared soil is time. Choose a suitable location with adequate sunlight and gently press the seeds into the soil at a shallow depth.

  5. Moisture and Care: Ensure the soil remains consistently moist but not soggy. Regularly monitor the moisture levels and adjust watering accordingly. Providing a balanced environment with sufficient moisture is crucial to facilitate seed germination.

  6. Patience and Monitoring: Germination of Mandrake seeds can be slow and gradual, requiring patience. Keep a close eye on the planted seeds, maintaining appropriate moisture levels and providing necessary care. Be prepared for a more extended germination period, which can take several weeks or months.

By diligently following these instructions, you can increase the chances of successful Mandrake seed germination and cultivate thriving Mandrake plants. Remember to exercise patience throughout the process and appreciate these beautiful plants' unique beauty as they unfold.

ALTERNATIVE SOWING AND CARE GUIDELINE

It is also possible to sow seeds in pots in October as an alternative to direct sowing. It's best to keep them outdoors during the winter in an area that is protected. In this case, the substrate mustn't dry out. The germination can take up to 12 months. After the seeds have germinated, expose the containers to fluorescent lights or grow lights. It would be best not to depend on direct sunlight from a window, as it might be too cool at night or too hot in the daytime. The roots of the mandrake should be large enough to survive outdoors once the roots have grown.

Perfectly adapted seeds to USDA zone in my region, perfect for growing outdoors. Perfect seeds in general. Also got a free complementary gift, it's like they knew I have anemia (lack of iron in blood).
