HOW TO SOW THE SEEDS HERB BORAGE

Borage is an easy plant to grow. If you're planting indoors, begin three to four weeks before the last frost date, or start them outdoors in the spring after the later frost date. As long as you've got eight weeks before the first frost, you can plant borage successionally all summer long. The plant can bolt more quickly and go to seed in hot weather. Borage seeds can be thrown on top of the soil, or any hole you poke every 12 inches can be filled with seed. Seedlings can be started indoors by placing one or two seeds in each cell, then covering the cells with soil. Borage should water seeds gently to avoid disturbing them.

CARE AFTER GERMINATION OF HERB BORAGE

Borage requires regular water until it is established. Watering the soil can become difficult after establishment. Borage needs no nutrition; fertile soil will prevent blooming. To boost flowering plants, use compost tea or a dilute fish emulsion solution. If you want your plants to grow bushy, pinch them back when they reach 6 inches in height. After about midsummer, cut the borage leaves by half to promote new, tender leaves. When temperatures drop below freezing, borage will die back. Borage can survive mild winters and flower again next year.

SOME TIPS AND TRICKS FOR HERB BORAGE

The borage seeds must be sown every four weeks for that flower to grow. As long as you choose to pick them whenever you want, you can use them fresh. As a result of being harvested, the leaves retain more of their distinctive flavor, making them more suitable for consumption than dried leaves. When you host a honeybee colony, do not disturb the flowers. It is possible to obtain excellent honey from these blooms.
