HOW TO GROW WHITE SWISS CHARD FROM SEEDS

Make sure your soil is well-draining and rich by mixing in compost before planting. If your soil is impoverished, you can apply a balanced fertilizer to the planting site. It would be best if you planted chard seeds 2 to 3 weeks before the last frost date of the spring season. Seeds should be soaked in water for a day before planting to speed up germination. Sow the seeds an inch deep, space them two to six inches apart in rows, and space the rows about 18 inches apart. Chard seeds come in clusters of several seeds, which results in multiple seedlings sprouting from a single planting hole.

CARE FOR WHITE SWISS CHARD AFTER GERMINATION

Thin the plants to about six to eight inches apart once they reach about three to four inches tall. Chard will tolerate partial shade but thrives in full sun. You can snip them with scissors once they get at least five inches tall and eat the young seedlings as a snack! You can plant it again the following year. In this technique, more mature leaves are harvested from each plant at a time, allowing younger leaves to continue growing for additional harvests later in the season.

USES AND HEALTH BENEFITS OF SWISS CHARD TALL

Including the leaves and stems, Swiss Chard is entirely edible. Because the stems have a lot of cellulose, they need to soften longer than the leaves. It takes the leaves less time to cook. Chard is a good source of vitamin C, and magnesium and a good source of vitamin A and K. Swiss chard also contain beta-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, antioxidants. It is vital for the normal development and maintenance of many organs, including the heart, lungs, and kidneys.
