HOW TO GROW PURPLE KOHLRABI FROM SEEDS

Purple Kohlrabi can be grown from seeds. Sow the seeds in the early spring or late autumn. Ideally, it would be best if you did not start the seeds until the soil temperature reaches 7 degrees Celsius. Fertile soil is necessary for seed propagation. Plant the seeds about two feet apart and about 1 cm deep when growing Kohlrabi from seeds. It is advisable to thin seedlings to a distance of 10 to 15 cm after they emerge after a week. It is possible to eat the tender young leaves of these plants, just like spinach or mustard greens.

CARE FOR PURPLE KOHLRABI AFTER GERMINATION

Maintain an even moisture level in the soil to encourage rapid growth. If water is not available, Kohlrabi will become woody. Use aged compost to prepare planting beds—side-dress Kohlrabi with aged compost once a month. A plant-starter or balanced organic fertilizer can also feed Kohlrabi once a month. Cultivate carefully to avoid harming the shallow roots. Mulch kohlrabi plants with aged compost when they reach a height of 10-12 cm. Cutworms, cabbage loopers, and imported cabbage worms can attack Kohlrabi. Wrap collars around the seedling stem to protect them from cutworm damage.

PURPLE KOHLRABI USES AND HEALTH BENEFITS

Kohlrabi is extremely healthy food. These cruciferous vegetables are cousins to brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, and kale and are rich in nutrients. In order to be a superfood, the item must be nutrient-rich, which Kohlrabi is. It is low in calories, as well as being nutrient-rich. In addition, it is used as an antioxidant and for cancer, heart disease, constipation, diabetes, gout, hemorrhoids, hot flashes, high cholesterol, liver disease, menstrual symptoms, sciatica pain, scurvy, and weight loss. It is also applied to the skin for hair loss.
