HOW TO PROPAGATE THIS BEAUTIFUL PLANT?

Bird of paradise propagation is not hard and is one of the most easily achieved by a plant division. Propagating Bird of paradise cuttings must occur in early spring by serving the piece of rhizome using a sharp, clean knife. Sprinkle some of the rooting hormones on the open cuts. Each division must have a fan with the attached roots.

Put all of the division in a small, clean place using a high-quality planting medium. Although the temptation is to water this new division, it is best to let all those cuts heal for a few days without adding any water. Begin the regular watering schedule after this time.

HOW SHOULD I GROW A PARADISE FROM SEEDS?

It is also possible to grow this tropical plant from seed. Learning how to grow this beautiful plant scientifically known as Strelitzia Nicolai isn't hard, and most people only need some patient. The Bird of paradise seeds must be dry and fresh to get the best results. Plant the seeds as soon as after harvest is done.

Soak these seeds in water that is room temperature for around three days to help germination. Change its water daily. Alternatively, you may scrape the outside coat of this seed using a file to break the seed coat. Seeds must be planted 1 inch deep in moistened, high-quality potting mix. Locate your newly planted seeds somewhere hot that is around 85 degrees, with indirect light. Cover the pit using plastic to retain humidity and also keep the soil moist.

The germination of these beautiful plant seeds is rather slow. Hence it would help if you were patient. It may take anywhere from one to over a year to see a sprout. It may also take a new plant over ten years to see the first flower. Timing is based on the soil temperature and its freshness.

Although the little patience is important, Bird of paradise propagation is a great way to grow more plants. Whether to add to your present plants or to make sure the survival year is in colder regions.

REGULATE THE TEMPERATURE OF THE GROWING ENVIRONMENT:

The plant grows in warmer climates, preferably in temperatures between 65 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit during the day. The plant won't flower if the temperature go below 60 degrees F. if you are at this moment planting a bird of paradise in the pot outside, take it inside in the winters as it won't survive in temperatures under 24 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • REPOT YOUR PLANT TO BOOST GROWTH:

If you grow the pot-bound Bird of paradise, move this plant to the bigger pot when the roots outgrow the container. Repotting must be done in spring. A three to four-foot-tall plant must have a 10-inch pot, and a five to six-foot-tall plant must have a 14-inch pot.

  • PROPAGATE YOUR BIRD OF PARADISE

Dig the mature clumps of a plant in late spring or early summer. And Cut through the root ball, ensuring there are around four dive shoots in each section. Space this new plant at least three to five feet apart, and keep the soil moist until these plants take root.
