HOW TO GERMINATE BLUE CORNFLOWER SEEDS

Start by preparing the soil. Cornflowers prefer well-draining soil, so it is best to add some sand or perlite to the soil to improve drainage. Sow the seeds in the soil at a depth of about 1/8 inch (3 mm). Cornflowers can be sown directly in the garden in early spring or late summer, or you can start them indoors about 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost. Keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged. Cornflowers prefer moderate moisture, so be sure to water regularly but don't let the soil become soggy. Germination typically takes 7 to 14 days. Once the seeds have sprouted, thin them out to about 8 to 12 inches (20 to 30 cm) apart.

CARE FOR BLUE CORNFLOWER PLANTS AFTER GERMINATION

Blue cornflowers prefer full sun, so be sure to plant them in a location that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Water the plants regularly, especially during hot and dry weather. However, make sure not to overwater them as this can lead to root rot. Cornflowers do not require much fertilization, but a light application of a balanced fertilizer can be applied in early spring to encourage healthy growth. To encourage more blooms, deadhead the flowers as they fade. This will also help prevent the plant from self-seeding and taking over the garden. They are relatively pest and disease-resistant, but they can be susceptible to powdery mildew in humid weather.
