HOW TO GERMINATE PURPLE CORNFLOWER SEEDS

Cornflowers prefer well-draining soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5. Amend your soil with compost to improve drainage and fertility. Sow the seeds directly into the garden bed in the spring or fall after the last frost. Plant the seeds 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep and 6 to 12 inches apart. Cornflowers prefer cool to moderate temperatures. The optimal temperature for germination is around 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Cornflowers prefer full sun to partial shade. The seeds will germinate within 7 to 14 days.

CARE FOR PURPLE CORNFLOWER PLANTS AFTER GERMINATION

Water the plants regularly to keep the soil evenly moist. Do not allow the soil to dry out. Fertilize the plants with a balanced fertilizer once a month during the growing season. Mulch around the plants with organic material to conserve moisture and suppress weed growth. Remove spent flowers to promote more blooms. Cornflowers are relatively pest-free but watch for aphids, spider mites, and leafhoppers. Control these pests with insecticidal soap or neem oil. To prevent fungal diseases, plant in well-draining soil, avoid overhead watering, and space plants for good air circulation.
